VOLLEYBALL: Lady Apaches put away pesky Somerville squad

The Gonzales Lady Apaches put away a pesky Somerville team in straight sets on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at home with a 25-21, 25-8, 26-24 victory that moves their overall record to 8-14.

“Somerville was very scrappy and put up a good fight in the third set, but the girls got it done,” said Coach Sarah Neal.

Mckenzie Hodges had six aces for Gonzales, while Tara Lester had seven kills and Kristyn Baker was the top hitter with11 kills. Alyson Jahns had four assists, while Macy Sample had 18 assists.

“Overall, it was a good night for the Lady Apaches,” Neal added.

On Friday, the Lady Apaches play San Antonio Fox Tech at home for their Homecoming game. Varsity plays at 5:30 p.m., and then JV and Freshman will play at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Apaches also defeated the Shiner St. Paul Lady Cardinals, three sets to one, in a match played at Shiner St. Paul on Friday, Sept. 3.

Gonzales won the first set, 25-21, but the Lady Cards evened things up with a 25-18 win in the second set.

The Lady Apaches then closed out the match with a pair of 25-21 victories in the third and fourth sets.

Gonzales moved to 7-14 overall on the season with their second road win of the year, while Shiner St. Paul falls to 1-5 overall.
