Lady Apaches start softball season with three wins, five losses

The Gonzales Lady Apaches softball team started the 2025 season with wins in three of their first eight contests.

The Lady Apaches defeated the Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs in a cross-county battle, 10-5, at home on Jan. 25. On Feb. 1, the Lady Apaches defeated the San Antonio Wagner Thunderbirds, 8-2. Then, on Feb. 13, Gonzales defeated Cedar Creek Lady Eagles, 12-4, at the Columbus Tournmanent.

Gonzales lost a close contest to Smithville, 3-2. They also dropped games to El Campo, 9-1, and East Bernard, 7-3.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Luling Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Apaches, 17-1, in a run-rule game at Luling.

The Lady Apaches then fell to the Marshall Mavericks in San Antonio, 13-9, on Tuesday, Feb. 25, after trying to mount a comeback late. Alaina Valle went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs and two stolen bases, while Alexzis Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs with a double and triple. Sarah Padilla went 1-for-3 and scored two runs.

Dixie Lester took the loss after allowing six earned runs. It was a rough day on the mound as she struck out 11 but walked 12.
Gonzales will be at the Seguin tournament this weekend.
