Lady Cardinals headed to state tournament

Shiner St. Paul’s 30-4 first quarter led to a whopping 69-22 blowout victory over Bryan Allen Academy on Friday, Feb. 22, advancing the Lady Cardinals to the state semifinals.

Grace Irvin shot 50 percent from the field, scoring a team-leading 22 points in St. Paul’s 47-point victory. Irvin also had a team-leading nine rebounds, a team-leading four assists and four steals. Gracey Novosad had 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and six steals. Eight other Lady Cardinals scored in game, including Trinity Garza who had seven points, one rebound, one assist and four steals. Christine Wagner led in steals with six, adding two points, one rebound and one assist to the stat book.

#2 Shiner St. Paul take on #3 Austin Waldorf on Friday, March 1 in Waco at Robinson High School. Tipoff is scheduled at 11 a.m. The winner faces the winner of between #1 Lubbock Southcrest Christian and #5 Plana Coram Deo in the TAPPS 2A girls basketball state final at West High School in Waco on Saturday, March 2, with tipoff scheduled at 11 a.m.
