Lady Mustangs down Ro-Hawks to stay perfect in district

A comfortable lead became uncomfortable, but in the end the Lady Mustangs ran their district record to 2-0 as they defeated the Randolph Ro-Hawks, 10-7, in front of a big crowd Friday night in Nixon.

Natalee Mendez and Greenlee Houseton both drove in three runs on the night, and Houseton, along with Carlee Cano, Kendall Amaya and Mary Kate Garcia had two hits on the night to power the Lady Mustang attack. Mendez’s lone hit was a big one as she went “big fly” with a homer.

Randolph opened the scoring with a pair of runs off Mustang hurler Amaya in the top of the first. Nixon-Smiley responded with a single run in their half of the first, took the lead with two in the bottom of the second and bolstered the lead with four runs in their half of the third.

The Ro-Hawks responded back with single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth to cut the lead to 7-4, but Lady ‘Stangs responded back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 10-4. The lead would hold until the Ro-Hawks made it interesting in the top of the seventh.
