Letters to the Editor: Praise for Gonzales citizens

Posted

Dear Editor:

It is not often that you find good samaritans in this world of ours.

This story is about just that, good samaritans in Gonzales. I live in Austin, which I love dearly. Me and my two sons were on our way to Sinton on June 3 for a meeting early Friday morning. Along the way we stopped at Circle G Truck Stop for water and little rest before continuing our journey to Sinton.

As we were to leave Gonzales my SUV would not start. The good citizens of your city noticed a stranded mom about in tears and her two sons trying their hardest to start the vehicle. They stepped in and tried everything they possibly could to get us on our way.

To no avail, two hours had past with no luck. As I watched the tow truck driver, Duane Zumwalt, of D & T Wrecker Service, who also attempted very willingly to get my vehicle started, tow my SUV away, an overwhelming feeling of being lost, worried about my sons and stranded consumed me.

At about that moment one of the men, Todd DuBose, who had also been working on my vehicle came forward and offered to drive us to Sinton. I was not afraid for myself or my sons in accepting his generosity. I felt safe in accepting his generosity. He drove us all the way to Sinton and made sure we were safe and in a hotel for the evening.

I offered to pay for his gas and his response was to do something good for another. It is not often or I should say rare that I have seen so much generosity. You have a special town with good citizens willing to help each other out. This is rare in our day and time.

Duane Zumwalt, who towed my SUV, was most helpful in finding a good place to have my vehicle repaired. He referred me to West Motors who had it repaired by the next day and ready for me to pick up on Saturday. Everyone at West Motors was kind and helpful.

This is a "Very Special Thank You" to Todd DuBose, Duane Zumwalt, West Motors - Ron, Kevin and Betty and everyone who helped in trying to get my SUV running at Circle G Truck Stop for all their generosity, help and caring.
