OBITUARY

Marjorie P. Allert Cardenas

Posted

Marjorie P. Allert Cardenas, of Gonzales, was called home on Saturday, June 4, 2022. She went peacefully in her sleep.  She was born on December 1, 1924 in Gonzales County.

Marjorie worked at Burchard Abstract Company for over 18 years (probably closer to 50 years).  She never learned to drive and could be seen walking everywhere -from her home to the office, to the courthouse, or to the county clerk’s office.  While she worked there, she was swept off her feet by George Allert. They were married for 20 years until his passing in 1986.  In 2007 she remarried, a charming man named Eusebio “Sam” Cardenas and enjoyed their life together.

Marjorie had a sharp mind and a great memory; she could tell you who lived in most every home in town, going back several generations.  Every time she met someone new, she would ask where they lived and what their family name was, or who their parents were.  The odds were high that she knew them, or their grandparents, and would immediately tell you all the stories she knew about them.

She enjoyed playing piano at several churches around Gonzales.  Even after she could no longer play, she kept her keyboard just in case someone stopped by that could also play.  She also loved feeding the neighborhood cats.  She was usually feeding 7 or more cats and sometimes even a skunk or possum.  Once, she even had the neighbor’s 2 roosters and 3 ducks wandering over to eat free meals.

Marjorie is survived by her dear friends, Christie and Alann Haub of Gonzales and her church family at Two Rivers Bible Church.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Sytha and Leslie Person; husband George Allert; and, husband Sam Cardenas.

A private interment service was held at the Gonzales City Cemetery. Friends may leave their

condolences and sign the guestbook by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com. Services are

under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
