Mary Jane Guerra

Mary Jane Guerra, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Mary Jane was born in Austin, Texas on January 30, 1942 to Andrea Martinez and Jose Mateo Castro. She married David Guerra on July 11, 1959. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mary Jane worked as a church custodian and later a private caretaker for many years, she enjoyed building friendships with the people she took care of. She enjoyed dancing with her husband and spending quality time with her family. She loved playing Loteria and if you didn’t find her at a yard sale you were for sure to find her at a casino. She also loved to craft and make things for her family and friends. In her early years, she loved to garden different plants and fruit trees, something both her and her late husband David enjoyed. She also enjoyed fishing and taking her grandchildren when they were younger. Mary Jane Guerra is survived by her adoring family; son Roger and wife Vicky of Gonzales, daughter Rita and husband Arturo Ruiz of Waelder, youngest daughter Viviana and husband Eric Gallegos of Gonzales and son in law Enrique Licea also of Gonzales. She is also survived by her loving sisters Yolanda Reyes, Oralia Trevino and Lucy Van Voltenberg and her caring brothers David Galarza, Frankie Casares and Antonio Casares. Her surviving grandchildren are Enrique Licea “Jr” and Yecenia, Erica Licea, Laura Guerra, Judith Guerra, Maria and Jordan Guerrero, Luis Guerrero, Griselda and Tommy Brian DeBerry II, Esmeralda and Jose Lerma and Liberty Belle Gallegos; great grandchildren Danilo Rogers, Julian Guerrero, Mia Licea, Gideon Guerrero, Ameriss Guerrero, Garen Guerrero, Juliana Licea, Zayden Lerma, Delilah DeBerry, Katalina Licea and Luciano Lerma. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her wonderful husband of 61 years David, oldest daughter Dolores, 4 great grandchildren and sister Alice Placencia. A heartfelt special thanks to our wonderful caregivers Monica, Ruth Angel and Teresa for their love and care for “Momo.” To our wonderful Hospice team, The Care Team, our family is grateful for your loving care, kindness and concern for and to “Momo” and our family. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, April 13, 2023 with a holy rosary at 7 pm all at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a burial service following. Pallbearers are Enrique Licea Jr, Luis Guerrero, Jordan Guerrero, Tommy Brian DeBerry II, Jose Lerma and Danilo Rogers.
