Roy R. Tovar, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and community leader, passed away surrounded by loved ones in his home in Waelder, TX. Born on November 8, 1963, in Waelder, TX, Roy dedicated his life to his family, community, and faith.
Roy was the cherished son of Juana Ramirez Tovar and Victorio Esparza Tovar. He is reunited in peace with his late siblings, Raul Tovar, Bernabe Tovar, Tomasa Moreno, Rosemary Tovar, and Margarita Tovar. His legacy of love continues through his surviving siblings Eva Martinez, Sandy Carlin, Adela Mireles, Victor Tovar Jr., Ray Tovar, Arthur Rosas, Raymond Tovar, Robert Tovar, and Rudolph Tovar. Roy is deeply missed by his children, Raul A. Tovar (Elvis), Paul I. Tovar (Vanessa), Amanda Gamboa, and his cherished grandson, Jaiden Tovar. His soulmate, Margie Zapata, was his steadfast companion and comfort in life.
A dedicated public servant and local business owner, Roy proudly served Waelder as a city council member and Mayor for over 30 years. His leadership shaped the town’s growth, bringing in vital businesses such as Cal-Maine Foods and Texas Egg and overseeing the construction of a new Waelder Medical Clinic. Roy also led the Fiesta Guacamole for multiple years, benefiting St. Patrick Catholic Church, and was a treasured figure in the community.
Beyond his career, Roy found joy in life’s simple pleasures: cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, sharing ice cream with his grandson Jaiden, attending outdoor concerts, and riding his Harley Davidson. He was a friend to many, a devoted family man, and a beloved community leader.
A Rosary will be held on November 8, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, 906 St. Paul St. in Gonzales, TX, with visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM on November 9, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waelder, TX, followed by burial at Waelder Community Cemetery. Pallbearers include Adolph Gonzales, Rocky Quintero, Danny Rincon, David DeAnda, Ralph Eureste and Charlie Noyola. Honorary pallbearers include Sam Jones, Eliseo Melchor, Jeff Jones, Nino Reyes, Mike Harris, Frank Martinez, Max Childers and Benny Leal.
