On Monday, April 27, 52 individuals took advantage of the free mobile COVID-19 testing that took place at J.B. Wells Arena. The mobile site was set up in Gonzales County to increase the availability of testing to all areas, focusing on both rural areas that have not had access to testing and identified “hot spots” where additional testing capability is needed to augment what is currently in place.

To be eligible for testing, individuals had to have one or more symptoms of COVID-19, including:

  • Fever and/or chills
  • Cough (Dry or productive)
  • Fatigue
  • Body aches/muscle or join pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sore throat
  • Headaches
  • Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea
  • Nasal congestion
  • Loss of taste and/or smell

“The goal is to test 1% of the county population in conjunction with what test are currently being performed here,” Gonzales County Judge Pat Davis said.

Results from the mobile test are expected to come “within a few days,” according to Jimmy Harless of the Gonzales County Emergency Management.

Harless reported on Wednesday morning through social media to “stay tuned for an upcoming mobile test site.”
