The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs’ playoff hopes came to an end in a 41-14 road loss to the Karnes City Badgers Friday, Nov. 1.
Karnes City shut down the Mustangs’ offense in the second half of the game; Nixon-Smiley scored two touchdowns from the ground by running back Joe White and quarterback Eric Rodriguez.
The Mustangs had three players who recorded 10 plus tackles in the loss to Karnes City; Nicholas Martinez and Aiden Flores tied with 12 total tackles, and Rodriguez closed out the game with 10 tackles.
Sophomore Jaylun Rodriguez led the team with two sacks; and Martinez finished second in sacks with 1.5.
The Mustangs will host the Stockdale Brahmas for the regular season finale Friday, Nov. 8.
Stockdale leads the series 11-2-1 since 1984; the last time the Mustangs beat the Brahmas was a 21-20 victory in 2014.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
