The Nixon City Council voted at its regular meeting Monday, August 24, 2020 to open the seat vacated by former Alderman Estevan Aguirre to interested parties.

Those who are interested in filling the position must submit a letter of intent to the council describing why they feel they are the best person for the position by September 4, 2020.

The council also received the 2020 Appraisal Roll from Gonzales Central Appraisal District and voted to propose the No New Revenue and Voter Approval Tax Rates from the Gonzales County Tax Assessor-Collector, Crystal Cedillo, for the 2020-2021 fiscal year proposed budget.

The No New Revenue Tax rate for the city is 0.3294 and Voter Approval rate is 0.3450. The city’s sales tax adjustment for 2020 is 0.1040. For a home valued at $100,000, this means city property taxes would be in the amount of $3,450.

Reports from Fire and Police Chiefs were also received by the council

Other agenda items which were discussed include:

  • The tabling of discussion regarding EMS building rental until the facility is repaired.
  • Tabling of action regarding Nixon food vendor permit costs.
