Nixon-Smiley CISD held its official groundbreaking for the construction of its new CTE building located at the corner of Roosevelt and Rancho Road.
The building will encompass more than 18,400 square feet, which will include a welding shop and classrooms designed for floral design; medical/training programs and technology. It will also house a much-needed multi-purpose conference room, which will be used for student presentations, hosting of student and staff conferences such as UIL and Ag events, and as an ACT/SAT/TSIA testing site. The estimated completion date for the CTE building is October 2025.
Construction also has begun on the new transportation/maintenance facility as well as the Ag barn, located just north of Lowry Street on County Road 173. The transportation/maintenance building will be approximately 8,346 square feet in size, with two large bays, and will house the district’s maintenance and transportation personnel. The facility will also include covered parking for the district’s bus fleet, fuel tanks, as well as a bus washing station.
The 4,591 square foot Ag barn will also be located at this location and will provide Nixon-Smiley CISD with an opportunity to learn more about agricultural science through hands-on learning. The estimated completion date for these buildings is also October 2025.
The other major project taking place at this time is the construction of the new baseball field as well as the renovation of the softball field. The baseball field will be completely redone with a newly designed field, including new grass, fencing, dugouts, backstop, press box and bleachers. The softball field will receive new dugouts, fencing, backstop, press box, and bleachers.
The expected completion date for phase one of this project is January 2025. Phase two of this project will involve constructing a new concession/restroom building. This part of the project will take place after the spring baseball season has been completed.
