The Nixon-Smiley Consolidated ISD Place 6 school trustee race will feature Loyce Adcock-Rice facing off against incumbent Aly Tschoepe on the May 6 ballot.

Education: Stockdale High Graduate. TLU College

Current Occupation: Business owner for 15 Years : Texas Outfitters Nixon, Texas Bottle Haus, The Cutting Edge Salon, Texas Storage, R5 Ranches.

Certifications held: Cosmetologist, EMT

Previously elected to any office: none

Volunteer work or service in non-elected positions: Current Nixon 4-H Leader, City of Nixon Featherfest/Cinco de Mayo Committee.

Tell us about why you are running for office?  

Adcock-Rice: I am running for office because:

#1. I want to improve Safety in all three schools.

#2. I want to promote more Trade Programs for graduating seniors.

#3. Better connections with the community.

What are the greatest strengths of Nixon-Smiley CISD in your opinion?

Adcock-Rice: They currently have been able to run a district with a group of people who can budget and disperse the funding available to the best interest of all 3 schools.

What are some of the biggest challenges currently facing Nixon-Smiley CISD? 

Adcock-Rice: Parent involvement and graduates future endeavors

What is your vision for the Nixon-Smiley CISD five years from now? How about 10 years from now?

Adcock-Rice: Five-year vision:

#1. Upgrading safety within the district

#2. Children need more counseling 

#3. Parents more proactive- more active roles in their child’s education and future.

#4. Ultimately, the community will turn around for the better: Better young adults, More businesses, Better school, Better town

What do you think your role should be as a school board member?

Adcock-Rice: Hard to say…..

I want to visit all districts and see how all function.

Then, I will find my place to improve on what is there for me.
