Nixon Smiley Livestock Show goes hog wild

The 34th annual Nixon Smiley Livestock Show Wild Hog Cook Off will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12 at the Nixon Smiley Livestock Show Barn & Arena. General admission is $10 for adults, with kids 12 and under free.

No outside food will be allowed into the event. The cookoff events will include salsa and margaritas at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, on Friday. Saturday will feature 9 a.m. dutch oven dessert, followed at 9:30 a.m. by chili, 10 a.m. beans, 11 a.m. pork (other than ribs), 10:30 a.m. pork ribs, and noon for chicken, followed by brisket at 1:30 p.m. The BBQ Cook off will have cash payout and prizes awarded. Other activities going on this weekend include the El Perro Loco Hog Bay, which will hold one dog competition with books open at 9 a.m. Friday. That day’s events include a pig scramble and tough man competition.

Books also open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday for the youth and two-dog competitions.

Schedule includes a wild hog bay at 9 a.m., silent auction at noon and ‘slick & sleazy’ pig races at 2 p.m. For more information about the El Perro Loco Hog Bay, call Slade Trammell at 830-534-3251.

Books close for the Ranch Rodeo at 4:30 p.m. and the Ranch Rodeo Calcutta begins at 5 p.m. with the Ranch Rodeo, Calf Scramble and Boot Races starting at 6 p.m.

Events include mugging, branding, trailer loading and a wild hog race. Entry fee is $500 for four-man teams. For more information, call Scott Trammell at 830-857-3132.
