The Life of a Legendary Pastor & Leader

Pastor Billy R. Washington Sr was born Mar. 31, 1952, He was the fourth of six children born to Elijah Washington and Mary Lee Gilmore Washington. He passed on Saturday, Feb. 6. He attended school in Gonzales, Texas and graduated from Gonzales High School.

Pastor Washington was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost, his great love for God was displayed everywhere he went. He was the Proud Pastor of the Gonzales Memorial COGIC and former Pastor of Forrest Street COGIC where he served for fifteen years.

Pastor Washington also served as the Treasure for Greater Victoria District. He taught and lived a life that was worthy of the vocation in which he was called.

Pastor Washington was an employee of HEB for twenty-six years, he had a warm embrace for everyone he encountered, everyone wanted to go through “Mr. Billy’s” line! They knew he would have a song, or a word of encouragement and it didn’t matter who was around.

Pastor Washington will be greatly missed, he left a powerful impact on so many lives. He pastored a universal church! Which consist of everybody he encountered. Pastor Washing was known for his “Hallelujahs and Amens!!” We shall never forget such a Giant of a man.

He Leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of thirty-two years, Melba Washington. Children Cameron Johnson (Marsetta), Brandie Barefield and Billy Washington Jr. (Luisa). Special son Pastor Jernard Conaway Sr (Courtney). 14 Grandchildren and one Great Grandson. Five sisters; Diane Monroe, Peggy Clemons (Ivory), Darlene Green Davis (Calvin), Patricia A. Clay (Bubba) and Carolyn Scott. Seven Brothers; Eli Washington (Sam), Daniel Washington, Special Brother David Tucy (Ruby), Billy R. Bouldin, Billy D. Bouldin, Ernest Bouldin and Steve Bouldin and a host of nieces, nephews’ cousins and friends.
