The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs kicked off the second half of district volleyball at home against the Poth Lady Pirates Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The Lady Mustangs fell to Poth in three sets (10-25, 14-25, 10-25).
Nixon-Smiley head volleyball coach Loraine Yates knew Poth was going to be a competitive team to face this season, she said.
“I just gotta give them credit. They're good all around teams. So we just gotta make a little bit better adjustments to some certain things and see some of their offensive plays a little bit sooner, but just comes with a little bit more experience from some of our younger players,” Yates said.
The Lady Mustangs made a little adjustments in the second set making the game a lot close by cutting Poth’s lead to five points early in the set.
“Try to make a few changes to some of my back row players, just to see if we could get some more passes up in serve-receive that were more effective to be able to produce some type of attack out of out of our offensive players. So making a couple of those back row adjustments helped,” Yates said.
The Lady Mustangs will hit the road against the Luling Lady Eagles Friday, Oct. 15; Luling won the first meet of the season and Yates and team will prepare for round two.
“We just gotta go out there and compete we've already beat them preseason so it's just a matter of us, knowing that we can beat them and then actually going out and execute,” Yates said.
The Luling match starts at 5 p.m.
