Robert Cyril Valenta, 93, was called home by the Lord on Friday, May 2, 2025, in Gonzales, Texas. He was born on February 9, 1932, to Rudolf and Annie Valenta. Robert spent his early years in Gonzales, where he attended local schools and worked on his family's farm.
In 1950, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War as a wire and electronics repairman. He attained the rank of Sergeant during his three years of service. While stationed in New Jersey, Robert met his beloved wife, Ruth Dilgard. The couple was married on September 8, 1952, in Gonzales, Texas, and then returned to New York to begin their life together. They shared 62 wonderful years of marriage until Ruth’s passing.
During their time in New York, Robert held various machinist positions. In 1978, the couple relocated to Abilene, Texas, where Robert worked for General Dynamics and later Lockheed Martin. Following his retirement, Robert and Ruth returned to his hometown of Gonzales.
Robert was a devoted husband, loving father, and exceptional grandfather. His family was his greatest joy, and his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication lives on through them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Valenta; his parents, Rudolf and Annie Valenta; two sisters and ten brothers; and his son-in-law, Edward Kahrs.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Ruthann (Gary) Cilento and Barbara Kahrs; his grandchildren, Edward (Trina) Kahrs II, Eric Kahrs, and Diana (Ben) Wilkinson; his great-grandchildren, Sici, Ethan, Owen, Hailey, and Joe; and many nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt thanks to cousin, Sue Valenta Camarillo for the compassionate care and support she provided to Robert.
The family will receive friends from 12 pm to 2 pm Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm in the chapel with Deacon Terry Brennan officiating. Interment will follow in Wrightsboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gonzales VFW Post 4817 or to a charity of your choice. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
