The Gonzales Independent School District Board of Trustees met for their regularly scheduled meeting Monday, April 10 at the GISD Administration building.

One of the big items discussed was the 2023-2024 pre-Kindergarten Tuition Rate. GISD Chief Financial Officer Amanda Smith said the district has been doing this for three years and planning to do something different this year to make it easier for parents.

“In an effort to better meet the needs of our families, we will advertise the availability of a monthly payment option for the tuition. In the past, the only two payment options that have been utilized by the participants is either a pay in full option for the year or they have paid by the semester,” Smith said.

Smith added the district “didn’t see a reason” not to offer a monthly payment for parents and will plan to add the service in their advertisements.

Smith recommended the board not change the tuition rate and keep it at $5,150, and she added whatever rate is approved will go to the commissioner of education for the final approval.

Smith is confident if the board approves the tuition rate as presented, it’ll get approved by commissioner of education, she said.

The board approved setting the prekindergarten tuition rate at $5,150 with pending approval from the commissioner of education.

The board approved the following agenda items:

• approved a Board Resolution Extending Depository Contract for Funds of Independent School Districts Under Texas Education Code, Chapter 45, Subchapter G, School District Depositories

• approved the date of Monday, Aug. 28 for the Public Meeting on the 2023-2024 Proposed Budget and Tax Rate.

• approved to table to approve representatives for the Lone Star Investment Pool for another date.

• approved the 2023-2025 Interlocal Cooperative agreement with Nixon Smiley Consolidated Independent School District relating to DAEP, DAEP Level III, Support Center, and the PACE Program.

• approved the GISD Growing Certified Teacher Program.
