Shiner Saturdays shines in inaugural event

The inaugural Shiner Saturdays took place on Saturday, June 15 and judging by the attendance, the event can only be termed a huge success.

Hundreds and hundreds of Shiner beer fans poured in from all over the state of Texas to play at the Spoetzl Brewery. Attendees were treated to live music from Croy and the Boys out of Austin while workers from the brewery poured samples and glassfuls of a variety of Shiner Beer products. The Salt Lick was on hand to provide free barbecue to the attendees, but they were overwhelmed by the response and the amount of people who waited in long lines to taste their famous brisket.

While all this was going on, people were playing corn hole on the grounds while a number of umbrella-covered tables served as a place for people and groups to mingle and share good times.

“We came all the way from Beaumont,” said one man who was enjoying a Shiner Bock with his wife. “I love Shiner Bock and have always wanted to come to the brewery and take a tour.”

Other people came from different reasons.

“It was my husband’s birthday and I secretly wanted to come to this event,” said a Mrs. Darr from Bastrop. “When I told him, we could do this as a possibility, he called his friend and jumped right on that bandwagon. We’re having a ball.”

Despite temperatures that were in the mid-90s, attendees managed to stay cool, play, drink, eat and make merry.

Croy and the Boys played two different sets of music, while a disc jockey out of Houston spun vinyl in between and after sets.

Tours were given all day long for free at 20-minute intervals. All attendees who were over 21 received a complimentary Shiner mug.

The next Shiner Saturdays will be on Saturday, July 13 at the Spoetzl Brewery.
