Smiley City Council clears air regarding street abandonment

Posted

The Smiley City Council had a brief meeting Friday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. to clarify that certain city streets were not officially closed or abandoned by the city.

The council was absent members Wayne R. Dauer and Diane Pena Moreno. The vote on the item passed unanimously with a vote of 4-0.

Bundick Street, for Ellis Street to Canton street, was the subject of the meeting’s sole item. These are city Blocks 30 through 41 and 29 through 42.

This clarification was necessary to remove ambiguities from minutes in a 2012 meeting of the council relating to abandonment of streets in Smiley.

“The City is in the process of improving the streets that were mentioned on the agenda for 02-19-21 and the ambiguity in prior meeting minutes regarding these streets was discovered and needed to be made clear prior to moving forward on the needed street repairs,” City Secretary Rebecca Mejia wrote in an email.
