Smiley implements curfew, closes city hall

In response to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as local health agencies, the city of Smiley closed city hall to the public as well as implemented a city-wide curfew for all individuals not classified as essential workers pursuant to Gov. Greg Abbott’s order dated for March 31.

The curfew order officially began on April 3, with curfew times beginning at 10 p.m. and ending a 5 a.m. local time. The curfew is in effect until April 10, unless further ratified and adopted by the Smiley city council.

All essential services will remain operational and the city’s staff will be available by phone, email or fax.

During the curfew, all children 12 years of age and under shall not be allowed in any public area, outside of the property line where they reside at any time, unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, according to the amended declaration of public health emergency.

Violations shall be considered a Class C misdemeanor and are punishable by no more than a $500 fine.
