For the first time ever, Gonzales County has two high school softball teams playing in the Bi-District playoff round of the UIL playoffs this week.
The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs are making their first-ever trip to the softball playoffs after securing the No. 2 seed in 3A District 26 action.
The Nixon-Smiley High School softball team defeated beat Stockdale, 15-4, on April 22 in a 3A District 26 tiebreaker game. As a result, the Mustangs (7-3, 10-9) are the district’s No. 2 seed and will face 3A District 25 No. 3 Llano (4-4, 23-4) in the Bi-District round.
The best-of-three series will play its first two games Thursday, April 29 starting at 5 p.m. at Dripping Springs High School. Game 3, if needed, will be played Friday, April 30 at a time to be determined.

Everyone is required to wear a face covering and social distance responsibly at all events, therefore, we have limited capacity at all DSISD athletic facilities. Tickets will be sold accordingly, be aware that some events may sell out quickly.
UPDATE: Wednesday's game between the Apaches and Boerne was postponed due to weather. A doubleheader will be played today starting at 7 p.m. at Wimberley High School.
The Apaches (2-4, 11-10) are the 4A District 27 No. 3-seed after beating Cuero in one tiebreaker and losing to La Vernia in the second. They will face 4A District 28 No. 2 seed Boerne (8-2, 23-6) in the Bi-District round. It will be a best-of-three series will start at Marion High School on Wednesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. Game 2 will be at Wimberley High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, with Game 3, if needed, on Friday, April 30 at 6 p.m. back at Marion.
