State-bound Cardinals

Shiner St. Paul are back in the football state championship after beating Lake Country Christian 41-14 last Saturday.

The team combined for 443 yards rushing, with Zak Johnson leading the way, rushing 18 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Carson Reese added 10 carries for 139 yards and two scores while Noah Boedeker had 10 carries for 85 yards and a score. Johnson also connected with Kai Giese for a 13-yard touchdown pass.

The Cardinals are a win over their rival Hallettsville Sacred Heart away from becoming back-to-back state champions. In their previous meeting, the Cardinals bested the Indians 21-14 on Nov. 1.
