Summer Concert Series returns Friday

Volunteers needed for events

For the 11th consecutive year, the Gonzales Main Street Concert Series is ready to rock the downtown area. The sure-to-be hottest party on the Square is set to provide free live music, food, drinks and games every Friday in June and on July 4. However, this staple of summertime Gonzales also needs something from the community: volunteers.

“We’re on track, but we can always use volunteers,” Main Street Administrator Barbara Friedrich said. “Volunteers are what make an event happen.”

Main Street is seeking volunteers to help with selling t-shirts, running children’s games and a 50-50 drawing as well as post event clean-up. Friedrich said non-alcoholic refreshments will be available to volunteers. Those interested should contact Barbara Friedrich at 830-672-2815 or bfriedrich@gonzalestx.gov.

Headlining the June 7 show is Five Card Draw, a seven-man country band hailing from Corpus Christi. They will take the stage at 8:45 p.m. following a 7 p.m. performance by Kenny Orts and No Chance. Concert grounds open at 6 p.m. For more on this week’s performers, go to Page 3.

Patrons will have their choice between all the classic summertime food and drinks: hot dogs, hamburgers and fresh-squeezed lemonade will be sold among other options. Daya’s Snow Cones from Luling will be serving fruity snow cones, the Gonzales Knights of Columbus are manning a beer tent and Gonzales County Youth Football League will be registering for a youth football league.

Other vendors will be onsite selling tickets for various raffles. Prizes will not be drawn until the end of the series.

Gates open 6 p.m. June 7 at Confederate Square. Music begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. The event is free to attend.
