Susan Gail Alford

Susan Gail Alford, 68, of Gonzales, passed away Monday, December 6 2021. Susan was born February 6, 1953 in Gonzales to Lloyd and Audrey Tharp Kurtz. She married Harold Joe Alford on May 15, 1977 in Luling. She was a member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church and had been an active member of the Gonzales Youth Center and Gonzales Little League.

Susan attended school in Gonzales, playing the flute for the Mighty Apache Band, and graduated with the Gonzales High School Class of 1971. She attended business college after high school and went to work for DuBose Insurance Agency where she faithfully worked for 40 years.

Susan was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and she could often be heard coaching them up through the television. She loved to play the “scratch-off” tickets and enjoyed trying her luck at casinos with her mother and brother. Susan Alford lived, and along the way touched many people in a way that made their lives better.

Susan is survived by her loving family, daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Scott Tolle of College Station, son, Joe Alford of Gonzales, mother, Audrey Kurtz of Gonzales, brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Patty Kurtz of Victoria and grandchildren, Scooter Tolle of College Station and Ethan Alford of Gonzales. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, and beloved Aunt Gloria Worthington.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, December 9, 2021 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 am Friday, December 10, 2021 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Clint Lowery officiating. Interment followed in Pecan Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers: Larry Tharp, James Tharp, Jonathan Dickinson, John DuBose, Jr., Arlen Hauschild, and Joe Dale Mills. Honorary pallbearers are the Ladies of DuBose Insurance Company. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Dr. Landon Smith at Texas Oncology, Dr. Commie Hisey, and the MICU team at Northeast Baptist Hospital.
