Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are still investigating a fatal accident that took place on Texas 97 in Gonzales County early Friday, Nov. 15, following a pursuit of a vehicle out of Fayette County.
Full details were still not available, but DPS Sgt. Ruben San Miguel did tell the Inquirer that it appears a vehicle had been fleeing from law enforcement in Fayette County and wound up on Texas 97 headed towards Gonzales.
Law enforcement used a spike strip to try to stop the fleeing car and were able to take out a tire, but the car kept going. It then crossed the median and struck a pickup truck head on, San Miguel said.
Two individuals in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third was airlifted with unknown injuries. A condition report on that individual was not available. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a hospital with multiple reported fractures. Identities of the people involved in the collision were not available as of press time from the investigating trooper.
