Two-vehicle accident near Shiner results in extrication

An individual had to be extricated from their vehicle that was involved in a two-car accident in the 500 block of Farm-to-Market Road 533 near Shiner in Gonzales County on Friday, Aug. 26.

The incident allegedly occurred at about 4 p.m. and occurred just inside Gonzales County near the Lavaca County line. Due to the location of the accident, the Lavaca County EMS was requested to provide mutual aid and arrived on scene to find one person still trapped inside their vehicle following the collision. Units from Gonzales County EMS, Shiner VFD and the Gonzales County Fire Department were still en route to the scene.

A PHI air medical team from Columbus was called in to a landing zone and the patient was successfully extricated and assessed at the scene. The individual was treated and then transported by helicopter to a trauma center. The condition of the individual and identity was not known as of press time.

Texas Department of Public Safety and Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office units investigated the accident and provided traffic control.
