Underground Water Conservation District extends permit hearing

The Gonzales Underground Water Conservation District has extended a hearing for a permit amendment requested by Guadalupe Blanco River Authority on the addition of three new wells located on the Caldwell County and Gonzales County borders, on the south side of County Road 444 northwest of Waelder in the Carrizo Aquifer.

At the Sept. 13 GUWCD board meeting, many citizens voiced their concerns about drawdowns and cost. 

The hearing will be held Oct. 11 at the Gonzales County Courthouse to hold enough room for any concerned citizens. This is an ongoing story and updates and comments from GBRA and citizens are to come.

GCUWCD has a mitigation fund to offset the effects of pumping in the district. This fund can preemptively lower the pumps in wells that will help offset the effects of drawdown in the Carrizo Aquifer. Landowners can contact GCUWCD with their contact information and the location of the well for inspection.

GCUWCD approved a tax rate at $.003735 per $100 of taxable value for fiscal year 2022-23 raising more taxes for maintenance and operation.

Water levels are taken three times a year and September’s report will be at the next meeting.
