Unemployment in Gonzales County decreased to 3.6 percent in March 2025, down 0.3 percent from the 3.9 percent recorded for February 2025 and 0.1 percent from the 3.7 recorded in January, with the county coming in as the third-lowest of all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for March 2025 was at 3.7 percent, lower than the state average of 4.0 percent. This represented a total of 3,309 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 89,339 people. This represents a decrease of 480 people in the labor force and 319 fewer individuals claiming unemployment.
The only counties reporting in lower than Gonzales County are Lavaca County, which had a region-low 3.0 percent unemployment rate, followed by Calhoun County at 3.1 percent. Next was Gonzales County at 3.6 percent, followed by Victoria County at 3.8 percent, Jackson County at 4.0 percent, Goliad County at 4.2 percent and DeWitt County coming in at the highest rate with 4.9 percent.
For March 2025, there were 312 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 8,780 with 8,468 reported as employed. In February 2025, there were 346 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 8,902 for a total unemployment rate of 3.9 percent. There were 8,556 people reported as employed.
In March 2024, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent as there were 325 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 8,739 with 8,414 reported as employed.
