Unemployment rate decreases to 3.2 percent in Gonzales County

Unemployment in Gonzales County decreased from 3.5 percent in June 2022 to 3.2 percent in July 2022, the lowest rate of all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for July 2022 was 4.2 percent, slightly lower to the state average of 4.3 percent. This represented a total of 3,828 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 91,207 people.

After Gonzales County, Dewitt and Lavaca counties recorded the lowest unemployment at 3.5 percent, followed by Jackson County at 3.7 percent. Calhoun was 4.3 percent, Victoria was at 4.8 percent and Goliad County at 5.1 percent.

For June 2022, there were 329 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,586 with 9,257 reported as employed. In May 2022, there were 279 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 9,678 for a total unemployment rate of 3.5 percent.

In July 2021, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent.

The 2.6 percent unadjusted unemployment rate for April 2022 was the lowest seen in Gonzales County since it was just 2.7 percent in March 2022.
