Unemployment rate remains steady at 3.2 percent in Gonzales County

Unemployment in Gonzales County neither increased nor decreased, remaining at 3.2 percent in August 2022 (prior 3.2percent in July 2022), the lowest rate of all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for August 2022 was 4.0 percent, slightly lower to the state average of 4.2 percent. This represented a total of 3,634 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 90,246 people.

After Gonzales County, Dewitt county recorded the lowest unemployment at 3.4 percent, followed by Lavaca and Jackson Counties at 3.5 percent, Calhoun was 3.8 percent, Victoria was at 4.6 percent and Goliad County at 4.9 percent.

For July 2022, there were 315 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,884 with 9,569 reported as employed. In June 2022, there were 329 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 9,257 for a total unemployment rate of 3.5 percent.

In August 2021, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent. The 2.6 percent unadjusted unemployment rate for April 2022 was the lowest seen in Gonzales County since it was just 2.7 percent in March 2022.
