UTSA professor: 'Come and Take It" is offensive

In the Aug. 12 print and e-edtion of the Gonzales Inquirer is a story about the president of the University of Texas-San Antonio organizing a task force to review the school's use of the iconic “Come and Take It” flag and motto.

Taylor Eighmy’s press release on Monday, Aug. 9 came just five days after the university unveiled its new Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence on Wednesday, Aug. 4, which  includes a rectangular sign with the school logo and “Come and Take It.”

A change.org petition launched by UTSA professor emerita Ellen Clark seeks support to “remove [the] offensive slogan steeped in racist history from the UTSA RACE Center.” MySA.com reported that she launched the petition with Sarah Gould,
