Vehicle title and registration waiver ends April 14, 2021

Posted

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a waiver which suspended the expiration of vehicle registration and other requirements related to registration and title was enacted on March 16, 2020 by Governor Greg Abbott.

This waiver expires Thursday, April 14 at 11:59 p.m.

There are three ways to renew a vehicle’s registration. To renew online, visit www.co.gonzales.tx.us or www.TxDMV.gov. Renewing online is available up to nine months past your registration date, and comes with a $1 discount, according to Gonzales County Tax Assessor-Collector Crystal Cedillo.

To renew by mail, send the bottom portion of a registration renewal form, payment and other required information to the Gonzales County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office. This office, located at 427 Saint George, Gonzales, Texas  78629, is also where any of these suspended responsibilities can be paid for.

As required by Texas law, a passing vehicle inspection will need to be presented in order to register it for the coming year.

The waiver not only covered vehicle registration, but also titling, renewal of permanent disabled parking placards and 30-day temporary permits.

For assistance or questions regarding transactions covered under this waiver, please contact the Tax Assessor-Collector’s office at 830-672-2841
