Williams climbs into top 5 in blocks at TAMU-K

Texas A&M-Kingsville freshman forward Devon Williams has only played two seasons for the Javelinas and has already reached the top five in career blocks for the school.

Williams, a Gonzales native and the daughter of Robert and Danielle Williams, has blocked 50 shots so far for TAMU-K, including 36 this past season, during which the Javelinas went 17-10 overall and 10-6 in conference play. For the year, she averaged 1.3 blocks per game to lead the team, along with her team-high 4.9 rebounds per game and her 4.8 points per game scoring average.

In the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season, she had 14 blocks, an average of one per game, to lead the team.

Arie Wilson, who played from 2000-03, holds the school record with 137 blocks, while Brett Henke had 125 from 1995-99. Kim Adams had 57 from 2001-03 and Victoria Gonzalez had 52 from 2009-11.

In high school, Williams was a two-sport athlete in basketball and track and was named the 27-4A MVP as a senior as the Lady Apaches made the area round in the playoffs. She also was named to the TABC All-Region team and she made the state meet in track and field twice.
