Anna Laura Burger

Anna Laura Burger passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024.  She was born on September 20, 1927 to Jim and Bettie (Palitza) Vinklarek in Dilworth, TX. She attended schools there and in Shiner and Gonzales, where she graduated in 1944 at the age of 16.  Upon graduation she worked at Allen Chevrolet and at Gonzales State Bank.

She married Jeff D. Burger in 1947.  They were blessed with five children, David, Gerald, Margaret (Sr. Maria Paschalis), Susan and Jeanette. 

They made a home in Gonzales and became active members of St. James Parish.  Anna Laura was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the DAV Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Later in life she enjoyed helping out with after-school religious education classes.  She and J.D. also loved camping and fishing while visiting many state parks.

She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.  She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Maria Calhoun, Tillie Evan, and Lillie Garvel.  Also preceding her are her husband of 58 years, J. D., and her son, Gerald Burger.

She is survived by her son, David Burger (wife Joyce), Sister Maria Paschalis, Susan Burger, and Jeanette Wolken (husband Joe).  She has eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 pm Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 pm Wednesday, January 31, 2024 in St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Jason Martini as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery #1a. Pallbearers: Patrick Flinn, Billy Moran, Greg Burger, Chris Green, Paul Carson, and Will Moran. Honorary pallbearers: Robert Garvel and Dennis Waller. Memorials can be made to the Catholic Daughters or The Altar Society of St. James Catholic Church.
