Arno B. Nance, 70, of Cost, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Arno was born July 21, 1946 in Gonzales to Stanley and Ethel Mitchell Nance. Arno had worked 37 years for Guadalupe Valley Telephone Company retiring in 2005. He owned and operated the Long Branch Saloon in Gonzales for short period of time.

Arno was born and raised in Gonzales. He attended Gonzales schools and graduated from the Gonzales Independent School System in 1965 and shortly after graduation he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning to Gonzales after his tour of duty with the Army, Arno went to work for GVTC. He had worked his way through the ranks with the company retiring as the Fiber Optics Foreman. Arno was an outdoorsman; he loved to deer hunt and fish both the coastal waters and fresh waters. He loved to garden and he had a way of growing bushels upon bushels of delicious tomatoes he shared with friends. He enjoyed working his cattle and bringing his beloved daughter along to drive as he cubed. He cherished his time with his daughter, teaching her how to shoot, fish and how to drive the truck. He helped her raise chickens to show as 4H projects. Arno was a strict but loving father, willful and stubborn as a mule, but fair and loving in his own way as well. Arno adored his granddaughters, “Pops” as he was lovingly known to them always kept a goody bag set aside for them to enjoy. Arno was a man’s man, his word was golden and he would do anything to help those in need. Arno reveled in life; he enjoyed his many friends and cold Coors Light but most of all he cherished his daughter, grandchildren and his relationship with God. Arno B. Nance was a good man, a loved man.

He is survived by his daughter Cassidie Lynn Nance Berry of Refugio, sister and brother-in-law, Virgie and Donnie Kifer of Cost and his granddaughters, Baileigh and Dakota Schmidt of Refugio. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Virginia Johnson and Hazel Rhoades and brother, Stanley Nance, Jr.
