GONZALES — An Austin man ended up behind bars after officers said he gave faulty identity information and possession of marijuana.

At 7:03 p.m. Feb. 26, Sgt. J.D. Holt saw a vehicle being driven without a rear license plate at the 100 block of Water St., Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Holt pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as John Paul Rodriguez, 46, of Austin. Holt could smell alcohol inside the vehicle, Taylor said.

When Rodriguez stepped out of the vehicle he gave the officer a different date of birth than what was on his driver’s license, and during a search of the vehicle officers found his license. A check on the license revealed Rodriguez had warrants for his arrest out of Travis County. The license was also invalid, Taylor said.

Officers searched Rodriguez and found a usable amount of marijuana. They arrested him and took him to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with failure to identify, possession of marijuana and driving while license invalid.

Man arrested for drugs, paraphernalia

At 9:14 p.m. Feb. 26, Officer Ryan Salles was patrolling the 700 block of Dunning St. when he saw a vehicle run a stop sign and pulled it over. Salles identified the driver as Jesus Guadalupe Guerra, 51, of Gonzales.

Salles searched Guerra and found three plastic bags containing what appeared to be meth, and discovered more meth inside the vehicle. Officers also found a syringe and a glass pipe used for smoking meth.

Guerra was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance. Guerra was also issued a citation to appear in city court for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man jailed for DWI

At 1:21 a.m. Feb. 27, Officer Ryan Salles was traveling north in the 800 block of St. Joseph St. when he saw a car speeding on St. Paul St. The car also turned left without signalling, and the officer pulled it over in the 1500 block of St. Paul.

Salles identified the driver as Alex Jonathan Deleon, 31, of Gonzales. While speaking with Deleon the officer noticed he had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, and could smell alcohol coming from inside the car and on Deleon’s breath. When the officer asked Deleon to take a field sobriety test, he refused, Taylor said.

Deleon was arrested and taken to Gonzales Memorial Hospital for a blood draw, and while there Deleon “became unruly and used profanity,” according to Taylor. Other officers were dispatched to the hospital to help subdue Deleon. He was later taken to Gonzales County Jail.
