We remember Bobby Bowden, who passed away on July 22, 2023, at 80 years old, as a man who deeply cherished life and family.

Born on July 15, 1943, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to J.E. and Juanita Bowden, Bobby's life was a testament to love, joy, and unwavering Christian faith. As a beacon of service and generosity, he was always ready to share his faith and assist others. A dedicated family man — a father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather — Bobby's love and care knew no bounds.

A key figure in establishing TV 17, Bobby brought church services to those unable to attend. His joyous spirit was evident at the First Baptist Church in Gonzales, where he was often seen whistling hymns after services.

Bobby's love for movies, pranks, and games reflected his playful and inventive spirit. In his youth, alongside his father J.E., he excelled in go-karting, winning numerous awards and trophies, which highlighted their close bond and his competitive spirit.

In his professional life, Bobby was a true innovator. He patented the “Wildcat Automatic Drilling System,” making a significant impact on the oil industry. He also owned several businesses, including Instrument Sales and Service, Wildcat Specialty, and Bowden’s Antiques.

Bobby played a crucial role in the restoration of the Crystal Theater, preserving a key piece of local heritage and culture. His dedication to community enrichment was evident in this and many other endeavors.

As a Navy veteran, Bobby's service further demonstrated his commitment to helping others. He also enjoyed being on the lake, particularly jet skiing with his son Blake, creating cherished moments of excitement and bonding.

Bobby is lovingly remembered by his children Lisa Morrow and her husband Pat, Lorie Seay, Leslie Marburger and her husband Greg, and Blake Bowden and his wife Ronda, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Shirley Pritchard, and his beloved wife Connie.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at the First Baptist Church of Gonzales (422 St Paul St, Gonzales, TX 78629). Bobby's legacy of benevolence, joy, and faith will be forever cherished and deeply missed.
