OBITUARY

Candy (Rhoades) Caraway

Posted

Candy (Rhoades) Caraway was born August 26, 1957, in Nixon, Texas to Glenn Reuben and Minnie Lou (Ward) Rhoades. She passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, in Nixon, Texas at the age of 66.  Candy married her husband, John David Caraway, of 45 years and 5 months on May 19, 1978.

Candy was a member of the Nixon Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, Girl Scouts as well as the past President of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary for 20 years.  She worked in many nursing homes and took care of several people.

Fishing in Rockport was Candy’s favorite place to escape to.  She loved to play bingo and absolutely loved doing cake walks in Leesville.  If you weren’t fighting her over a spot then you weren’t standing next to the right lady.  If you knew Candy and were the recipient of her “mean” ways, like a slap to the arm, pinch behind the leg or just embarrassing you with her words in public, then you knew she really was not mean to you.  That was her way of telling you that she like or loved you.  She had a heart as big as Texas.  She would do just about anything for her family.  She did not have to be asked to do things, she just jumped in and did them.

Candy’s 2 Great Granddaughters were her pride and joy.  She was always proud to show them off or spend hours talking about them.  They loved her just as much as she loved them.

Candy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Sharon LaNelle Jackson and Vickie LaNora Thomas. She is survived by her husband John David Caraway, son Samuel Lee Caraway (Katherine), daughter Robin Lynn Caraway (Boyfriend John Sellers); grandchildren Grace Nicole Caraway, Mason John Caraway, Blake Wiley Caraway (Kaitlyn), Kayla Marie Keyser (Colby), Cheyene Lynn Albertson (Fiancé Christopher Earls), and Kelsey Renee Albertson; great grandchildren Dixie Rose Caraway, Dakota Skiy Caraway Earls and Christopher Wyatt Earls; sisters Betty Jean Cowey, Billie Jim Cardwell, Jeanette Gawlik, Wanda Jean Peoples, Cindy Hill; and numerous nieces,  nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 5pm to 8pm at Finch Funeral Chapel Nixon.
