Cardinals take gold at Shiner meet

SHINER — The Shiner St. Paul cross-country teams took gold in their respective races after a successful meet in Shiner on Saturday.

The Lady Cardinals placed first in the small schools’ division of the cross-country race as Danni Blair led the way with her time of 13:16, good for third. Right behind was Paige Brown who took fourth with her time of 13:17. Brooke Pesek took eighth with her time of 13:25 and Bailey Blair took ninth right behind at 13:26. Other top finishers include Riley Johnson, Hope Kapavik and Trinity Garza who each placed 11th, 12th, and 13th, respectively.

On the boys’ side, the Cardinals also finished first as Lane Jackson led the way with his second-place finish of 17:01. Walker Jackson took third with a time of 17:11. Other top finishers include Cade Davis who placed fifth with his time of 17:47. Dalton Jahn placed 18th, Andrew Wagner took 22nd, Sam Benes 25th and Frank Benes 26th.

The St. Ludmila girls’ and boys’ team also had success, winning their respective races.

“These young ladies won the Moulton Meet, Shiner's September Meet, Weimar Meet and Shiner's October Meet,” Shiner St. Paul head coach Dana Beal-Sestak said. “We are really proud of our junior high boys and girls. They have put in a lot of work to get better this year.”
