Commissioners receive AirLife proposal

GONZALES — County commissioners on Monday received a presentation from Trey Howard with San Antonio AirLife regarding different options of emergency airlift transportation.

One proposal Howard offered the county was a county-wide coverage plan for all 20,432 residents of Gonzales County. This option features a membership cost of $2.50 per resident annually, with a total annual cost of $51,155. Howard said the county has the ability to pay for this in three different ways — one involves the county paying for all residents up front in one payment and give this as a benefit to residents. Another way is to pay for all residents up front in 12 monthly payments as a benefit.

Also, the county can pay for residents up front and look to back charge the residents for $2.50 through county revenues at their discretion.

Howard offered a second proposal, which would target county residents for memberships in a “grassroots” effort with 1,000 memberships as the goal. The membership rate would be $10 per individual plan or $25 per family plan. Residents would pay the cost of the membership and select their preferred option plan.

The third proposal would allow the county to pay for employees only (157 total). The membership rate would cost $30 per employee with a total annual cost of $4,710. Howard said the county would be able to pay this up front or in 12 installments over the year.

Commissioners plan to take up the matter later this year (November or December) when the current policy expires.
