Drowning death investigated at Gonzales dam

Gonzales County law enforcement is investigating the drowning death of a man in the Guadalupe River below the Gonzales dam on Sunday evening.

According to the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at about 7:34 p.m. Sunday, July 10, along with Gonzales police, Gonzales firefighters, Gonzales County Rescue, Gonzales County EMS and Texas Parks & Wildlife game wardens to the hydroelectric dam on the Guadalupe River near US 183 (Water Street) for a possible drowning.

First responders were told the victim was last seen in the river below the dam. After a brief search, his body was located and recovered by Gonzales County Rescue personnel.

Deputies said they were not releasing the victim’s name out of respect for the family, but did “send our sincerest condolences to the victim’s family.”
