Emergency Management Coordinator urges public to stay home

For safety reasons, Gonzales County Emergency Management Coordinator Jimmy Harless is asking the public to stay home during this weekend’s storms if possible.

“People tend to get out and drive around looking at storm damage,” Harless said. “This is not a good idea because the roads can be littered with debris. You could run into a fallen tree or a downed powerline.”

Harless added that when people drive in this kind of weather and accidents happen, then first responders have to put their lives on the line to rescue them.

“It just makes more work for first responders, then they’re facing danger along with you,” he said. “So please stay home unless you have an emergency.”
