To Our Momma:  Gloria Jo Floyd

Your work on this earth is complete; rejoice in your healed and renewed body.

The life of this amazing woman began as she was born just yards away from the San Marcos River in Fentress, Texas, on February 16, 1945, to the loving parents of Otha James & Ora Lee Wade.

Gloria hit the ground with a stride that never ended until the morning hours of October 16, 2023, just yards away from the banks of the Atascosa River, in her accomplishments as a young girl from lil' ole bitty  Luling, Texas.  She set out and achieved the goal of letting the world know Her name.  From bussing tables and assistant cook at McKays Restaurant in Luling, TX, to earning her RN from St Philip's College of San Antonio, earning her doctorate at the University of North Texas, and being the director of nurses at many well-known Texas hospitals.  Her life was of giving to all but herself.  Of all her accomplishments, what made her the proudest was her marriage to Elliott Floyd Sr, and her greatest blessing from that union was being a Mom to her children.  Although she did not give birth to her two oldest children, she raised them as her own.  The five children include William Elliott Floyd, Recie Mozzel Miller, Angela Eliot Yvonne Floyd, Elliott "Bucky" Floyd, and Jade Eliot Small.

Her life was always go, go, go; even after a cancer diagnosis, that only acted as a speed bump, and she full-heartedly went around it and kept the pedal to the floor.  Another cherished accomplishment of her success as a woman was to honor other women like her so In 1984, Gloria founded the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame.  Her last few years of life were that of bed rest, which she well deserved.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, Otha & Ora Lee Wade, niece Gayla Lampkin, nephew Reggie Wade, grandson Benjamin Miller, younger brother Harry James Wade, and husband of 44 years Elliott Floyd Sr. She leaves to cherish her children along with brothers Otha Jr, Don and Ronnie Wade, sisters Cynthia Lampkin and Gale Anderson, Grandchildren Wade Elliott Floyd & wife Samantha, Reggie Miller, Landon Floyd, Georgina Small, and Jasper Small, Great Granddaughter Elliott Rae Floyd.

Forever grateful for the love and care she received from Jennifer Floyd, along with heavenly sent Noey Gonzales.  Between those two ladies, they kept the sparkle in Gloria's eye shining over the last ten years.  The family cannot express their appreciation and love for you two for your endless efforts to keep her life relevant.  On Friday, October 20, 2023, Gloria Jo Floyd was privately and quietly carried and laid to rest by her nephews Mario Wade, Joseph Anderson, Mickey Wade, Carl "Scooter" Floyd, and grandson Wade Floyd.  She was peacefully situated along the banks of Caney Creek next to Elliott Floyd Sr on the Floyd Family Farm outside of Wharton, Texas.

In her memory, listen to "I was Born by The River"
