Gonzales County Jail Museum to hold ‘Jailhouse Rock’ fundraiser

Posted

The Gonzales County Jail Museum will have folks kicking up their “Blue Suede Shoes” as they will host their first-ever Jailhouse Rock fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 26, at GG’s Steaks & Spirits, 216 Middle Buster Road, Gonzales.

The event will honor the historic Gonzales County Jail Museum. It will also pay tribute to the Elvis Presley’s immortal “Jailhouse Rock” and is being held near the anniversary of his Oct. 28, 1956, second performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” when he performed “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Hound Dog” along with “Love Me Tender.”

There will be an Elvis impersonator present as well as a floor show of old-time Western music. The Gonzales Lions Club will hold a 50-50 drawing and there will also be a jail cell where people can be “arrested” and held for “bond” that will benefit the museum.

On the menu will be “jailhouse stew and cornbread,” the very meal prisoners turned themselves back in for if they broke out of jail too early!
Tickets go on sale this month at the Gonzales County Jail Museum. For more information, contact the Gonzales County Jail Museum at 830-263-4663, or email jail.pgtx@gmail.com.
