Gonzales County jobless rate falls to 3.2 percent

Unemployment in Gonzales County fell by three-tenths of a percent in April 2023, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

While unemployment in the county did fall to 3.2 percent from the previous 3.5 percent in March, Gonzales County did not have the lowest jobless rate of the seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area.

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for April 2023 was 3.4 percent, a drop of four-tenths of a percent and lower than the state average of 3.7 percent. This represented a total of 3,167 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 92,351 people.

The counties in the Golden Crescent with the lowest unemployment rate were DeWitt and Calhoun at 3.0 percent each, followed by Jackson County at 3.1 percent, both Gonzales and Lavaca counties at 3.2 percent, with Goliad County at 3.6 percent and Victoria County bringing up the rear at 3.8 percent.

For April 2023, there were 303 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,559 with 9,256 reported as employed.
