Gonzales County jobless rate falls to 3.5 percent

Unemployment in Gonzales County fell by nearly half a percent in March 2023, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

While unemployment in the county did fall to 3.5 percent from 4.0 percent in February, Gonzales County did not have the lowest jobless rate of the seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area.

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for March 2023 was 3.9 percent, lower than the state average of 4.2 percent. This represented a total of 3,607 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 93,665 people.

The counties in the Golden Crescent with the lowest unemployment rate were DeWitt and Calhoun at 3.4 percent each, followed by Gonzales and Jackson counties at 3.5 percent, Lavaca County at 3.6 percent, with Goliad County at 4.0 percent and Victoria County bringing up the rear at 4.2 percent.

For March 2023, there were 345 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,834 with 9,489 reported as employed.
