Gonzales ISD announces administrative hirings

Gonzales Independent School District has announced three more hirings to critical administrative roles within the district.

Wanda Fryer will serve as the new director of secondary education, while Karen Perez will be principal at Gonzales Junior High School and Vanessa Gibson will be the principal at North Avenue Intermediate School.

For the past 20 years, Wanda Fryer has served in various administrative roles in the GISD, including assistant principal and principal at North Avenue, and principal at both Gonzales Junior High School and Gonzales High School campuses.

Currently, Fryer serves as the director of student and community services. While serving in those leadership roles, she ensured students and staff a quality education with an emphasis on climate and a "growth mindset."

Fryer stated, "I am thrilled and beyond excited to continue my growth mindset belief as I continue serving the students, parents and staff in my current and new role of director of secondary education.

Karen Perez

For the last 21 years, Karen Perez has served in various educational roles including teacher, CTE coordinator, assistant principal and principal. Her commitment to students, staff and community members is evident by her relentless effort to ensure that every student is given an opportunity to learn, grow and feel a sense of belonging. 

Perez stated the following, "I am honored to have been selected to lead the Gonzales Junior High campus."

Vanessa Gibson

For the last 17 years, Vanessa Gibson has worked in the education field as a paraprofessional, science teacher, English teacher and the last seven years as an administrator. The last three years have been spent in Lockhart with Lockhart ISD as an assistant principal at Navarro Elementary.

Gibson stated, “I am overjoyed with the opportunity to serve as the Principal of North Avenue to continue the success of all students that enter those doors. I look forward to building positive relationships with students, staff and the community to ensure the district’s vision and goals are met.”
