Hit-and-run leads man to jail

GONZALES — A Weslaco man was arrested after police said he ran his truck into another vehicle and drove off without reporting the incident.

On June 29, Officer Alberto Carrera was patrolling the 1200 block of St. Paul Street when he heard the sound of a vehicle racing its engine, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. He saw a grey GMC pickup driving south on St. Paul, and turned to pull it over. The pickup suddenly struck a parked vehicle and drove away from the scene, Taylor said.

The driver was pulled over and identified as Jose Gonzalez, 28, of Weslaco. He was arrested and charged with duty upon striking vehicle. Officers also learned that he had a warrant for his arrest out of another county. Gonzalez was taken to Gonzales County Jail.
