James “Jimmy” Selzer, Jr., aged 75, of Gonzales, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Born on August 13, 1948, in Moulton to James Selzer, Sr., and Lenora Hrincko Selzer, Jimmy grew up in Little New York, attending school in Gonzales. During summers, he worked in his family’s store and cherished swimming in Peach Creek with his close friends. It was during his school years that he met Susie Brzozowski, whom he married on September 14, 1969, at St. James Catholic Church, just three months after their graduation.

Jimmy initially worked for the State Highway Department after high school but soon pursued his dream of cowboying. Renowned for his exceptional cow dog sets, Jimmy's skills were admired by many in the county. He transitioned from cowboy work to managing various ranches in the area before hanging up his spurs to begin spraying mesquites for other area ranchers.

A man of few words, Jimmy was known for his stoic demeanor, strong principles, and unwavering faith in God. He found immense joy in spending time with his beloved family. Whether it was barbecuing for friends and family or teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing and hunting, Jimmy's presence radiated strength, warmth and love. He cherished moments at the deer camp surrounded by some of his closest friends, he considered this the embodiment of what life was all about.

Jimmy, fondly known as "Pop" to his grandchildren, was their hero, and they meant the world to him. His passing left no opportunity for goodbyes, but it's believed that Jimmy bid farewell in his own silent way, tipping his hat as he rode into eternity.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Susie Marie Selzer, his daughter Shelly Renee Furman (Larry), his son Michael Lynn Selzer (Michael), his sisters Mary Lou Matejcek and June Murphy (Matt), and his grandchildren Jack and Taylor Furman, Terri, and Alexander Selzer Sharpe. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, with funeral services to be held at 10 am on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, also at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, officiated by Rev.
